I couldn’t stop listening. Really well done. Recommended to a few friends.

I listened to this in one straight shot - totally entertaining and also interesting about the history and culture of Vice in its context. The host is great at bringing out the contradictions in Slava’s story without being overly dramatic. I hope she hosts more podcasts in future.

I could not stop listening. What great reporting!

I’m glad I didn’t read the reviews until after I listened because I thought this was REALLY good. As to some of the negative comments, yes, the main character is delusional and a complete liar but that doesn’t mean Kasia believes him and even points that out on a regular basis. Yes, Vice was a...Read full review »

Came to this podcast from Thunder Bay, and have to say I really enjoyed this. It was well edited and narrated, entertaining, and a good story about an idiot who thankfully got 9 years.

Very easy to get hooked on this podcast - not only it has an intriguing story but it’s also fantastically put together, the music really gets you and just very easy to binge.

This is really interesting and utilizes interviews show great variance in point of view. Our main subject clearly sees himself in a different light as his victims see him. I really understand the need to put Vice’s culture in the forefront however, they podcast veers off topic in order to...Read full review »

Har lige binget hele podcasten og er meget imponeret. En vildt fed historie - og balanceret fortalt. Ægte, troværdig journalistik - og alt det, som Vice ikke er/var.

This was absolutely amazing coverage. A must listen especially to those who are in the hip hop space

I have to say I thought he will get 2 months After hearing the judge excused why he did it. After hearing the judge I thought 2 months Yes I did think of Bali 9 & how many of them got fooled

Really enjoyed this podcast It’s paced well and moves through the story from a variety of perspectives

I had no idea 5 of the young people had been imprisoned in Australia. You read about drug busts fairly often but rarely hear the full details. This was fascinating on so many levels and some aspects reminded me of the so called Bali 9, of whom two were executed in Indonesia. Highly recommend....Read full review »

Cool story, told well, interesting throughout

Started off telling a compelling story and then strayed off into marginally related information. Too bad.

Great journalism for an underreported story. From a Vice fan, still love them but definitely have looked at the work with a different perspective. Music on point, graphic is amazing and all around great journalism.

Series was good until episode 5, lost interest when the final episode spends nearly all its time on Vice, not the actual story.

Kasia does a great job of discovering the root of the story and then presenting the critical elements in an entertaining manner. The best form of spoken journalism. Can’t wait to hear more from Kasia!!

Vice can’t go more then 5 minutes without mentioning white privilege or some other anti white propaganda

It’s interesting insight into how the bullied become the bully and why working as a hopeful newbie in a toxic environment like Canadian Vice can totally screw up your life.

Really, there’s not much in this podcast. Just an immature journalist with a penchant for “fame” in his little music world. This is a 2 episode story stretched.
Listener74 via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 04/12/20
Well researched produced and narrated podcast, an interesting story enlivened by the significant involvement of the key players.

An above average exploration into the drug smuggling story, which involved a Vice employee, and interns. The host is amicable and does a good job of attempting to paint the full picture. Unfortunately, the main protagonist comes across as a highly self-absorbed and delusional individual, and by...Read full review »

Interesting story, but the podcaster has a constant tone of judgement - it’s clearly not unbiased reporting. There’s something ironic about the fact that she’s reporting on a story about the journalistic integrity, when she isn’t able to hide the chip on her shoulder she still has from being...Read full review »

This doc series isn’t just really well reported, it’s got great style with the music choices, editing and a sly sense of humour threaded throughout. Narration is great. Slava is a super compelling antihero who you can’t help but feel for inspire of everything in the end. And there rise and fall...Read full review »

Presented in a very anti climatic way for such an interesting story. That theme song is annoying as well. Still worth a listen though.

Nice work Canadaland! I'm an Aussie who is always looking for other Anglosphere perspectives... and even when Canadaland podcasts are very parochial - they're always fun to listen to.Read full review »

should be called Hit Piece as in a VICE hit piece.

Ok
Interesting enough story, but I’m much more interested in stories about this Gavin guy and the early days of Vice. The Slava story should have been one episode of a series deep diving into the crazy world of Vice.

Riveting, Gripping from all angles & perspectives. Excellent! Love it. Thx is for producing. 😊

A fantastic listen for our current collective confinement. I don’t care too much about VICE so I kinda avoided listening to it since Canadaland released it - I only turned to it as I ran low on non-pandemic listening material. Glad I did! The thin threads of a bigger story that I barely paid...Read full review »

Someone much smarter than me should deconstruct this within a media class. Between Slava going on about how Vice Atlanta has “a bunch of black kids pointing guns at the screen” and he doesn’t, Slava jumping in a polluted waterway and being picked up by police and not arrested, his...Read full review »

Another excellent podcast from Canadaland! They do an excellent job telling the story and go into the social causes surrounding the crime. Great podcast
Draconsphere via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 03/16/20
Pretty good listen. After having just finished episode 4, I’m starting to suspect that this story could’ve been condensed into less episodes. The main reason I’m only giving 3 stars is that I think the host is drawing parallels and making assumptions that are not logical regarding Vice’s...Read full review »

Very cool story and I’m enjoying it, but way too many times do we have to hear - “We reached out to “insert name” but they never responded.”

Hate the guy that they interview throughout the podcast, but that’s the point. Kasia does a good job of ensuring he doesn’t get to control the messaging.

This is an excellent podcast that weaves together multiple interesting narratives. First, it is fascinating to get a peak inside the world of drug cartels. I always imagine these folks to be so smart and slick, so it’s funny to see how bumbling and haphazard a high stakes criminal operation can...Read full review »
