“I've long felt that giving "titles" to serial killers was wrong. Too often and in the vast majority of cases these killers are memorised and their victims become forgotten.
My interest in this case was sparked a few years ago when I saw a documentary about Richard and Sonia McCann trying to find out more about their Mum and also trying to contact the children of other PS victims. Their story stayed with me and I was really sad when I heard some time later that Sonia had succumbed to the mental health problems which had plagued her as an adult.
A podcast like this is long overdue and I am delighted Laura is giving both a voice to the women who died and hearing from those they left behind. This is vital and was sadly absent at the time with women described as prostitutes regardless of whether they had a history of this or not.
The police force of the 1970s did not treat women well...not their own officers or the women victims of violent crime. I'd like to say things have moved on (and they have) but society still has so much more to do in how it views women and perpetrators of violence.
Thank you Laura for getting this out there. These women had names, they had families, they had lives...we should remember them and not PS.”Read full review »
