"This American Life" Meets "Serial"
"Crimetown" hits the sweet spot between real-crime reporting, editorial narrative, and real people telling their own real stories. You can tell in the first two episodes that the season is building a narrative arc, but the bulk of the content is character exploration through people who were there doing (or, according to them, not doing) what was covered in historical news clips sprinkled throughout. Light dramatic SFX and transitional clips keep the listener engaged and in the moment without being overwhelmed or feeling led along. "Crimetown" is a vigorous stroll through the murky waters of crime, motives, and the violent choices that make it hard to distinguish the good from the bad.Read full review »
