“Okay, they have perfected Northeast snobbery - but that's part of the reason I listen. I often don't have the same opinion as the trio featured on gabfest - but I like hearing what they think, and hey snobbish or not -- they are amusing. I think they offer a fresh view on several topics that is definitely worth hearing. I knew what I was getting when I signed up for the Slate Culture gabfest ... and I'm getting what I expected, usually more. When I want something with a more local "southern" flavor, I read my local paper and check local websites. Local culture is varied so I understand why they have to take on broader issues... Do I sometimes think they are out of touch, YES, but it also makes me think a little more about the things that I value.

“Another review here, one that gave the podcast five stars, asked who needs another dissection of low-brow celebrity-obsessed popular culture masquerading as cultural coverage. I certainly don't. That's why I've stopped listening to these pretentious twits.
Using obscure language is a...”Read full review »
