snobbery at its best
Okay, they have perfected Northeast snobbery - but that's part of the reason I listen. I often don't have the same opinion as the trio featured on gabfest - but I like hearing what they think, and hey snobbish or not -- they are amusing. I think they offer a fresh view on several topics that is definitely worth hearing. I knew what I was getting when I signed up for the Slate Culture gabfest ... and I'm getting what I expected, usually more. When I want something with a more local "southern" flavor, I read my local paper and check local websites. Local culture is varied so I understand why they have to take on broader issues... Do I sometimes think they are out of touch, YES, but it also makes me think a little more about the things that I value. I'm really surprised by some of the reviews, and while I can certainly see a few of the points made, if you don't like the podcast, why are you listening? I look forward to each week and hope it continues, I just wish the podcast was longerRead full review »

Slate consistently produces quality written and spoken fare, opinions that reach past the usual range found elsewhere and this cast is no exception.
