“...I don't want to come down on the Culture Gabfest or its hosts just for trying to "sound smart." I love the idea that there's a show out there attempting to link pop-culture with larger themes in the arts and literature. Unfortunately, the chemistry is not all that fun, and they often come across as a bit hazy on potentially interesting subjects, or just strenuously textbook.
In the end, I'd probably rather listen to Steven Metcalf lead his team into some chunky work of history rather than self-consciously edging into the "Jon & Kate" fray. Maybe then these voices will come out a bit more confidently.”Read full review »

“This is my favorite podcast. It's always funny and interesting, and the commentators seem authentic and genuinely fond of one another. At the end of the program, they give recommendations, and I've followed several of them and been introduced to a lot of good stuff.”Read full review »
