Description
Named after the camper van that founders Ali and Ian spent four years travelling the world in with their children, Bert’s is an eco retreat and bustling kitchen garden sandwiched between the wales and sea of North Wales.
Molly is joined by Ali to hear all about the journey, from finding Bert’s in The Times to how the land itself and her own childhood holiday memories have led its evolution into the space it is today.
.50 - Introducing Ali, founder of Bert’s and how one row over what was next inspired a round the world campervan trip with their family
.03 - Trading in life on the road for somewhere more permanent and finding Bert’s in The Times
.42 - Creating a space that brings people together and being led by how they use the space
.17 - Finding an untouched spot of land sandwiched between the mountains and sea
.17 - Starting out with a barn, a tractor and mowing 50 pitches into the grass
.01 - Converting Bert the bus into Bert the Kitchen and how the campsite has organically grown over the years
.23 - Introducing cabins and the piggery to cater for more multi-generational trips that were designed to reflect the industrial heritage of North Wales
.37 - Drawing on childhood memories of summer holidays on the beach in Nantucket and creating that sense of going home at Bert’s
.19 - All the things going on at Bert’s from standup paddle board to yoga and full site takeovers by First Camp
.51 - Food and drink, inspired by the young, local employees at Bert’s with produce from the veggie patch or local producers
.05 - What’s next for Bert’s, a new cafe on the beach and a safe space for its young employees to try their hand at managing their own business
.21 - Ali’s ultimate places to detox, celebrate and travel
