In school our focuses for the WW2 were very much bomb shelters in the garden and the blitz. My knowledge of the Pacific theatre were limited to John Wayne films, Inn of the Sixth Happiness and the like. (And I will admit Operation Petticoat)
I have only recently developed an interest in the non-European side of the war and have thrown myself into the subject with multiple door-stop books. From Burma to Russia.
These podcasts are like the doorstopper book in podcast form. Absolutely fantastic.
Dan has a fantastic way of setting the scene and taking the subject from beginning to end.
Our families connection with the Pacific campaigns was a painful one for the older generation of my family as a member did die on the Burma railway so it had been truly fascinating to be taken into things in depth.
A wonderful and very REAL telling of things. Perhaps not for the squeamish and I did find myself tearing up more than once at the experiences of these brave and ordinary men who were in situations through no fault of their own.
Thank you for the time and effort but into these podcasts.
