Hey Dan, I know it's treacherous waters to wade into politics, but your perspective on what this past election means for the country, albeit separate from democrat or republican, but what it means for the country writ large as a successful Democracy. You're the only one that can talk...Read full review »

Cant stop listening to these. He does a great job of animating his voice and laying out the information an a very interesting way.

I’m writing to let y’all know this is a banger historical pod to listen to at work. It’s interesting, well presented, and well researched. Now, I have had to re-listen to a few episodes because as you listen (if you’re me) past a point your brain fully turns off and listens on autopilot until the...Read full review »

It’s probably just me, but… I’ve been listening to Hardcore History for years if not decades but I can’t seem to get through the most recent episode. At times he seems to be whispering so I have to turn up the volume and then he seems to be yelling so I turn down the volume, then I just quit. My...Read full review »

If you love history, you’re gonna love Dan’s storytelling of ancient and not so ancient history. Highly recommend his Podcasts.

After reading all the positive reviews attempted to give these ago. Sorry to report my experience was one of frustration with his simplistic reporting. I think that it highlights the vast difference between the American education system and the British. I was unable to listen without becoming...Read full review »

UK listener here. In school our focuses for the WW2 were very much bomb shelters in the garden and the blitz. My knowledge of the Pacific theatre were limited to John Wayne films, Inn of the Sixth Happiness and the like. (And I will admit Operation Petticoat) I have only recently developed an...Read full review »

This is where Dan is at his best. This is where he seems to do his best work although I don’t think he is any kind of super-historian but at a basic level he works at his better analysis and isn’t bad to listen to. Nobody should ever consider only one source on history however Dan is not the...Read full review »

These podcasts are fascinating. He puts a phenomenal amount of research into each episode, makes lots of historical connections and brings it alive. I’ve had to stop listening to them while driving. I was concentrating on the podcast and forgetting about the road.

Dan is a raconteur who has the ability to not only explain the great trends in human history, but also make you feel like you are a soldier in a trench through his use of original source material and his unique narration style. It takes time for anyone to paint you a re-creation of an event in our history that text books, alone, do not contain everything a person needs to know in order to paint that image within their brain. A woman I once worked with in the 1980s described to me her experience of the ‘62 missile crisis...Read full review »

Dan describes events together with what is happening around them and how they affected each other till they make sense. He is humble and descent. Did I ever expect to listen 5 hours of a single podcast? Not I did listen to many long podcasts of his, I wanted more when I finished them!

Dan
Love these podcasts the way he puts these topics across is so engaging and entertaining, simply brilliant.

However Dan doesn’t call himself historian, many believe he is a great one. It is the smartest way to be an unorthodox, unbiased, school-free historian anyway. His story telling and where he stands in the universe he creates, is second to non. He knows how to feed the audience with the needed...Read full review »

It’s rather annoying having to listen to the constant volume changes from when you’re giving background compared to when you’re yelling to read quotes. There’s no need to shout every quote while you whisper everything else.

This podcast is like the cool uncle you saw only once or twice every year as a kid but every time you saw him he always had amazingly fantastical and detailed stories, Turkish candy and a shirt knitted by villagers in Kazakhstan. Lack of regular content, episodes that are too long, and covering topics that are boring. If you are reading this and you agree with what I just said, I strongly recommend An Old Timey Podcast. Listen to the John Brown and Lucille Ball episodes.

Dan always, without fail, hits us with the details that matter and he finds angles from which to approach the “story” that illuminate the whole story. He takes a one dimensional story and turns it into a a much deeper and richer tale. The production is ALWAYS compelling and ALWAYS brings it to...Read full review »

I say that half Joking! I thoroughly enjoy every single episode. Anything Dan Carlin does is done well. He ia a great story teller. Dan Carlin attacks the subjects of his podcast with all the enthusiasm and bravado of a college freshman. He may state the context is king but that doesn’t mean he’s found the context. He makes it readily apparent that he is a journalist and not a historian by missing the fine details in favor of...Read full review »
