…what is wrong with Dan Snows voice?? Love history and, although this pod does have a tendency towards woke virtue signalling (highly irritating), presents many fascinating topics with knowledgeable guests. Great stuff. However, Dan’s intro (just him talking) can go on for up to ten minutes (as...Read full review »

Dan Snow does a great job as a host - asking thoughtful and thought provoking questions and picking and discussing occasionally uncomfortable topics without fear. Also this channels and it’s related podcasts cover areas beyond the Euro centric and mainstream - offering an introduction to areas...Read full review »

If you enjoy history and don’t mind a heavier focus on European and specifically British characters and events, you will love this podcast. It’s just the right time length - nearly always about 30 mins - and there seems to be a new episode every day. I downloaded dozens of them to my iPhone for a...Read full review »

As a historian and veteran I thoroughly enjoy the topics, discussions and insights from this podcast. Dan Snow would have become a great American if born on the West side of the Atlantic.

•EPISODE: “The Field Of The Cloth Of Gold”, in which a historian says “look back retrospectively” without a skerrick of irony. 🙄 •EPISODE: “Fallout — The Secret History is Nuclear Testing” in which the interviewer pronounces “nuclear” in the George W. Bush fashion (“nuc-U-la”). You’d’ve...Read full review »

The “Current Affairs” of history; now there’s an oxymoron.

Interesting guests and fascinating topics, unfortunately since Dan Snow developed a lisp (dental work?), much of which he says is lost since he’s developed a strange lisp that distorts his previously clear voice. Get your teeth fixed Dan!

Comparing with other podcasts of similar nature, Dan often comes up with entertaining topics. However he often seems to to be in a rush; speaks very fast and unclear, as if he has something in his mouth. Aldo advertisements get longer and longer which is almost unbearable. Sometimes too frequent but can’t complain about free content. Really want to have a book podcast, love to hear Dan’s recommendations for the best/simplest books. What’s the best condensed book for an overview of the Roman Empire?

The actual contents of this podcast are superb. Unfortunately they’re mixed about 50/50 with long repetitive adverts. I know pods need to make money, but I feel this one goes too far and it spoils the listening.
Lance B.. via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/03/21
Great podcast. Subjects are really interesting and explained very well with fantastic guests. Always have loved anything with Dan snow would of given 5stars but the ADs are far too long; repetitive and sometimes in between a question.

Thank you, Dan, and by extension to all the deeply knowledgeable colleagues you have hosted on your podcasts. The Ancients and Tudors are also most engaging. I am spreading the word within the history nerds and enthusiasts in my family. Thank you so much!

Love Dan and his work and understand the need to monetise. However, the repetitive and utterly irrelevant adverts ruin the show and make it unlistenable.
