Chilling to the core
Listening to the stories interwoven with chapters of Germany’s dark history, I found the hairs on my neck standing up . One would have to be willfully ignorant to not see that far right extremism is gripping not only much of Europe and Germany; it is spreading around the world with social unrest and leaders willing to exploit people’s fears, engaging in hatred and xenophobia. The pandemic, civil unrest , social and racial injustices and shifting demographics have all brought out the most extreme violent ideologies from the far right; this podcast is evidence of a global problem, not solely a German one. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

It’s a great perspective on how the far right have infiltrated institutions that said institutions were supposed to protect against. It’s a chilling wake up call to us on this side of the Atlantic.

This is a great series, well produced and narrated. The source material is set out clearly and carefully. None of it will surprise you if you’ve been paying attention to the story of the far right, but it’s worth listening to.
