Two Bros and their love of movies, most of the time
As a longtime listener (since around the first dozen episodes or so), I’ve always loved the deep dives into the topic films Steve and Ben do. And for about 95% of time, that’s what you get and it’s fantastic and fun to listen to. Some of my favorite episodes are “The Witch” and the classic “Suspiria”, and for first time listeners I’d start with these. However, overtime they’ve been sneaking in (or just blatantly) throwing in political statements here and there, sometimes going on tirades about certain topics. As someone who doesn’t necessarily agree with these perspectives but loves the actual discussions of the films in question, it usually takes a fun and enjoyable experience and burdens it with excess baggage. I’m not saying you have to love Christianity or Trump/general conservatism (the main punching bags), I have a litany or problems with both. But at the end of the day I find that whenever these topics are brought up they rarely constructively contribute to the conversation and usually will just bring an interesting discussion to a screeching halt. Once again, as a listener of over a year and a half (probably longer) these things have slowly been normalized and makes me personally apprehensive to listen to certain episodes. There are certainly subjects/film where that kind of criticism is absolutely warranted, but often I’ve found it not the case. If you want to talk politics just start another podcast or venue for that, don’t let great conversations suffer as a result. With all that said however, the main focus is generally the movie analysis and both Ben and Steve are great at finding new insights and fun behind the scenes trivia. As far as additions that I enjoy, the mini beer reviews are always cool since I’m constantly looking for new beers to try. Overall I’d say it’s worth listening to and I will continue listening, but I personally just find the bits of politicism a little much and hurt the core of the show. 4/5

I’ve been looking for a good horror movie podcast to get in a spooky mood for Halloween. I browsed around and listened to a few different ones that were all okay but had pretty shallow discussions that basically recapped the plot of the movies. I gave D&L a shot and was a little turned off by...Read full review »
