“I grew up only a county away from where this story takes place, so I was peripherally aware of some of the details when it was making headlines. But what we have here is a careful, emotionally attuned retelling from an uncanny perspective. The overlap between the host and his late subject is shockingly similar, making for a compassionate and hopeful rendering—despite the heaviness of the content. Investigating a phenomenon so tragic (and so sadly common) can be draining, but what the creators are plumbing for gets far beyond the facts and really locates the heart and soul of the story. Simon is perfect on-mic and the accompanying soundtrack succeeds in enveloping the listener in each scene. Hopefully they turn it into a standalone album.
