Must listen for any Catholic or LGBTQ+ person. Captivating. Nuanced. Convincing. Unforgettable.
This tragic story of Alana had to be told. Religious Conversion Therapy is surprisingly common and thriving. As a narrator, Simon invites us into his intimate inner dilemma as a gay Catholic man who desperately loves God and the church, and still does even to this day, despite his conversion therapy experience. Simon tells his story alongside Alana, who eventually died by suicide. It could have been Simon who died, and he realizes that. Simon also doesn’t hate the church, he wants to invite change. In the polarized debate on issues of religion and sexuality, Simon carves a middle ground with his stunning vulnerability and nuance. A must listen for anyone who has a tie to Christianity of Catholicism, with concern for lgbtq+ individuals.

This is a story that needs to be told. Hearing Alana’s mother reading her journal entry was so touching, I feel like so many will relate to this story. Looking forward to the release of this show.
