“I’m listening to the episode finishing season one, before Keri comes on, when there’s a comment about when bras were invented. I literally said, out loud, “wha-a-t???” Are you crazy? Bras first came out in the post-WWI period, becoming popular in the 1920s, as they were lighter and less restrictive than corsets, to go with the flapper-era flowier and flimsier fabrics being used among trendsetters.
Your grandmothers and great-grandmothers wore bras. And don’t watch Marvelous Mrs. Maisel about this, either. For all the talk about the costumes and authenticity, they got some major things wrong. Most women didn’t wear “corsets” then, and nobody was wearing pantyhose yet. They didn’t have in vitro fertilization then, either.
Look up the lingerie ads in the 1960s and prior. As for Charlie’s Angels, that show was purely for titillation (no pun intended). It was a T&A show, like the later Baywatch. The big braless era was the late 60s/early 70s, and most women didn’t go for it. I’m happy for Keri that she can go braless and look great, but most women can’t and don’t. And didn’t, even in the disco era.”
