Sigh. I really wanted to love this.
I love Cheryl Strayed, and she is sadly a secondary player on her own show, having to spend most of her effort cleaning up the mess of Steve Almond, who is sanctimonious, tone deaf, and clueless to any situation except those that resemble his own. On a recent episode about money, he cut way too much slack for an obnoxious, entitled writer, and unfairly criticized and dismissed a woman drowning in debt, calling her situation an "addiction." Wikipedia tells me that Almond is not a licensed medical professional, so instead of inaccurately diagnosing and over-simplifying someone's call for help, he should stick to what he knows best. Which is apparently self publishing books of his own stories. His presence on this show is making me think of unsubscribing.Read full review »

I've listened to 8 shows now. These people are rank amateurs doing more damage in 45 minutes than any professional might do in a lifetime. Disappointing doesn't begin to describe the letdown these supposed caring people do to/for their listeners. They ought to be yanked off the air...Read full review »
