Meh.
I find this a *somewhat* interesting podcast. It’s sort of safe, however. I feel like Lori could dig deeper and her voice is honestly quite grating. And while Guy’s voice is much more pleasant to hear, he seems a bit old-school in his academic-style of therapy. Further, Guy and Lori basically concede to each other’s opinions/“expertise”, never challenging the other’s take on something. Something in the way they chat seems a bit paternalistic and presumptuous, as well. In contrast, Dear Sugars (with Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond) was a far more interesting, more outside-the-box and philosophically-challenging podcast, and I feel like Dear Therapists falls flat as some sort of sad imitation of the former. Moreover, therapists aren’t supposed to give advice, they are supposed to listen and guide. Unfortunately, Lori & Guy dole out the advice and make a lot of assumptions about their callers, which perhaps is the fault of the editing. I don’t know, this podcast just mostly leaves me with more questions and I feel the “guidance” our hosts give isn’t always the most depth-filled or challenging. All in all, this podcast is kinda “meh”.

More reviews of Dear Therapists with Lori Gottlieb and Guy Winch
Listening gives me a glimpse into the minds of regular people with regular problems. Lori and Guy provide ways to have the difficult conversations I might need to have. They show trust that the listeners will follow through.
