The agenda is too obvious, content and story too light
I learned about both Mendieta and Andre in art history lecture classes decades ago and this was discussed. It is not a secret. But it is old news and the weight one puts into cancelling Carl Andre may vary. That’s a legitimate conversation. And there are legit conversations for so so many of them. This is a pitch for one side and so clearly that the narrator misinforms us of the discourse. It led me to dig more as I don’t know the curators of today and indeed, this might be loosely tied to being fired as a curator, I don’t know. That this wasn’t disclosed upfront makes it more suspicious. I’m disappointed because this could have been amazing. Instead it’s like watching Michael pollan pull a bait and switch by turning a documentary about fungi into a pitch for legalization of shrooms. One level is fascinating. The other one is a campaign.

Good pace, love the inclusion of various viewpoints and I really love learning about something I had no clue about. Ana’s work will stay with me long after listening to this podcast, as will the conversations around silence.

Not just Mendieta’s murder but the silence surrounding...Read full review »
