“This podcast follows a rigid format of short, editorialized exposition delivered by the host, followed by an interview segment, which is quite obviously heavily edited down from the actual interview to fit the tight 30 minute time frame of the production.
Unlike pretty much anything else published under The Intercept name, the result is a short, shallow and thoroughly unsatisfying show that directly contradicts its own name again and again by failing to deconstruct anything and instead just haphazardly delivering the host's opinion on the week's subject, with the interview serving as a mere soundbite collection to illustrate and underline the preceding opinion segment. In this way, it feels much more similar to a typical cable news show (where ads would stretch it to double the length) than a podcast. In fact, some episodes feel like an unintentional parody of cable news punditry more than anything else and can be amusing to listen to as a result, hence two stars instead of one.
Listeners in search of actual deconstruction of the subject of each episode are well advised to look elsewhere.”Read full review »
“Mehdi Hassan is a brilliant journalist who dares to ask the questions that should be asked regardless who’s sitting in front of him. I really recommend this podcast as it is an eye opener.”
