“I am a bit obsessed with the fact that listening well to others is so powerful, not particularly difficult but so rare. Oscar’s podcast brings the topic to life, with interviews, examples and theory it can appeal to everyone no matter their background. I’m an Internal Coach and Listening Volunteer for Samaritans whilst my daughter is and secondary school and we both learn from, and enjoy, Listening Beyond Words. With front line experience, I can confirm that many people facing personal challenges do not feel heard, even by their closest friends and family. Simply being allowed to voice and share what they’re feeling with someone who show’s curiosity and wont judge can be life saving - just listen to the Kevin Briggs episode! And if you’re a professional business listener then the Prof. David Clutterbuck episode is a game changer! Thank you Oscar for making this podcast available, we need to share it with the world!
Updated review Oct 2033…
I have just listened yet another beautiful discussion, with Dr Naineni who articulated such a human centred approach to his relationships which is really important in todays world where many people aren’t feeling heard.
What did I take away? A reminder to stay present to the speakers narrative, and not my subconscious agenda. I have a brightly coloured sparkly bird broach next to my camera for virtual listening - it reminds me of the birds in Aldous Huxleys The Island where coloured birds were trained to shout “attention” and “here and now” to keep the Islands residents present.
He also reminded me of the importance of demonstrating the importance you place on the speaker by welcoming them and not rushing them, the speed of the walk into his office really resonated with me as it’s so easy to carry your own rushing over into a conversation.
Really great job to find someone like Dr Naineni! Thank you”
