Aster is assigned to lead the Fauna, the goat-like species first encountered in "Lock, p'Tahk, & Two Smoking Barrels," in removing highly advanced explosive mines from their once occupied planet. Dal Boket and Dr. Tamura offer technical and moral assistance, while a certain Klingon makes a surprise appearance.

On an otherwise benign day aboard Deep Space X, the senior officers are surprised to find a cloaked probe exiting the Bajoran wormhole. After initial examination, its origin is revealed: Romulus. Will Aster, Tamura, and Boket be able to unveal the secrets hidden inside this Romulan nesting doll?
