While enjoying a holosuite program based on "Wild West" Earth adventures, the senior officers of DSX are startled from their leisure after they receive an emergency message: The USS Kestrel is missing. Cmdr. Aster, Dr. Tamura, and Gul Boket form a search party to bring the Kestrel back home.

After receiving a visit from Exarch Movik and a reinstatement of his Gul title, Ran Boket requests assistance from Aster and Tamura to revisit Talara-Prime. The crew of DSX then assist the photonic workers of the planet, known as Holodytes, amidst influences from Starfleet, Cardassia, and perhaps even the Breen Confederacy.

Having commandeered a Ferengi vessel, the crew of Deep Space X attempt to save Grand Nagus Rom and his wife, Leeta. The two are being kept on "New Ferenginar," a resort planet in the Gamma Quadrant, operated by a strict social conservative party of Ferengi known as Traditionalists. Will Aster, Tamura and Boket be able to restore order?

After Ran Boket finds Rankle attempting to commandeer a shuttle, the Ferengi shares information of a kidnapping plot. The victim: Grand Nagus Rom. Aster leads Tamura, Boket, and Rankle in an undercover mission to save the benevolent leader.

During a review of the station's personnel physicals, Dr. Tamura reveals to Cmdr. Aster and Dal Boket his recent nightmares and distressing visions. The two agree to be Tamura's pylloras, entering a special mind meld to help him uncover, and live through, a suppressed memory.

Dal Boket fends off his adversaries, both the Cardassian politician Eerack and Starfleet Officer Lt. Emai, while attempting to restore his reputation. Meanwhile, Cmdr. Aster and Dr. Tamura try to connect the dots, concerned of possible Obsidian Order, Orion Syndicate, or even Section 31 involvement.

Avder still sick and Bajoran/Federation relations at a low, things brighten up momentarily on DSX when Gul Boket receives a commendation from the Daystrom Institute for the long-range probe he launched during S1 E2, “Idol Threats.” However, he is unexpectedly arrested for the death of one his allies. Aster and Tamura battle how to assist him in the Cardassian legal system.

The Bajoran Republic has pulled out of a summit that would have finalized their Federation membership and orders all Bajoran Starfleet members back to Bajor. DSX’s Chief of Engineering, Lt. Avder, himself a Bajoran-Siskan, disobeys this order to leave and becomes stricken with an acute illness. Aster, Tamura, and Boket visit the Bajoran System to try and connect the dots.

With the assistance of Gul Boket in the USS Kestrel and a few Klingon Birds of Prey, Cmdr. Aster and Dr. Tamura attempt to minimize "first contact" damage with the Fauna, the rebellious pre-Warp captors of a Gorn warship, the Eegal'Roc. Disguised as the Fauna themselves, the two Starfleet officers contend with a Gorn threat still aboard the ship.

Cmdr. Aster is visited by Kuri, a warrior Commander for the Klingon Empire and an ex-lover of his. She implores him to assist her in a mission to capture a Gorn warship, the Ee'gal Roc. The twist: the ship was recently captured by a rebellious group of pre-warp inhabitants of a Gorn colony. Dr. Tamura and Gul Boket offer widely different opinions on how to deal with the pre-warp aliens.

She is suspected of targeting the civilian families of fellow criminals. With the aid of the USS Burbank, Aster, Tamura, and Boket prepare for the worst.

Under the guidance of Cmdr. Aster, Gul Boket and Dr. Tamura go on an undercover mission to snuff out the criminal presence on Dosi Prime.
