A fascinating illumination on the history around us that we take for granted
Some of the things mentioned in the podcast doesn’t surprise me. What is interesting, and rightly so, how much of the “benefits” of slavery are in the every day in the UK which we don’t think about. There are a couple of assumptions made by interviewees that I don’t agree with, especially some of their generalisations where I know it isn’t the case. One of them even talks of the “lower classes” without defining who they are but it’s almost seen as implying a thing about a particular race. That aside - and interviewees are entitled to their opinion even if we don’t agree - it make me wonder about so many things; street names, churches, buildings, funds and trusts, that benefitted from slavery and reparations to slave owners. I like that it speaks to so many different people and let’s their stories speak for themselves. And I don’t hear “smug Jen” but “naive Jen”. The more I listen the less surprised I am that many Black Brits of Caribbean descent are clueless about their history.

Much enjoyed this podcast and the way the story unfolded. Liked the links between each character, though I found the beginning very repetitive and boring at times.
