“Been listening for the past 2 hours, so I hope it's safe to share a few words for this review.
DIS/SECT is a podcast that attempts to bring a deeper understanding to an artist's work in each individual sequences, or seasons. In Season 1, it is Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp A Butterfly". Personally, I have much adoration for Lamar's work. This particular musical album is a universally acclaimed, modern pinnacle in hip hop and rap. DIS/SECT makes successful attempts to comprehend every lyric and musical nuance within each track per episode with the assistance of historical and contextual evidence. The format of each episode is done in a commentary format, in which a brief segment of the song is played and an analysis is given directly afterword. This allows the listener to better connect to the source material while being able to critically think its probable definitions.
DIS/SECT is a podcast I hope continues to expand within its coming seasons, making attempts to introduce variety into each season by critically reviewing albums of other genres. Season 1 dissects an ambitious piece of work, which I hope allows others to further appreciate hip hop's integral "To Pimp A Butterfly."
