“The structure of this podcast is what has really blown me away, with the narrator keeping great pace and covering off all the major categories: the crime itself, victimology, early police work, ongoing avenues of enquiry, major and prime suspects throughout the investigation, offender profiling (if it was completed) the different avenues of DNA tracing, then the apprehension, arrest and interview of the offender, and court case and outcome where applicable.
I did get really excited when I listened to the first case as I was quite interested about DNA/science advances solving cold cases – I would also highly recommend Bear Brooks if it also interests you – and then after a couple of episodes I wondered if I might find it a bit repetitive (crime committed, lots of investigation that leads nowhere, then DNA technology advances where DNA or forensic genealogy lead to the offender). However, the cases themselves are quite fascinating, and by going through the different suspects and hearing about the investigation itself and then the different profiles of each offender once they are caught, it definitely keeps things interesting.
Big props to the narrator, I find her engaging and there is minimal commentary, asides or personal opinions to distract from the case and investigation, but when they do occur I’ve always agreed or at least appreciated the comment. There is respect when mentioning people in the cases that haven’t had anything to do with it (eg by not disclosing their full name), the focus on victimology is something often missed from other crime podcasts, the pace and structure have been really satisfying after listening to other podcasts that go all over the place, and the lack of wild conjecture and unrealistic opinions that some other podcasts push to sensationalise the story is really refreshing.
10/10, great podcast!! You have a budding long time listener here :)”
