The narrator has an incredibly annoying lisp which makes it impossible to listen too no matter how interesting the material is

Someone wrote a podcast and then fed it to a robot to read. I couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes. It’s a shame a great podcast like casefile would ‘present’ this.

Pass. The description sounded so good so I’m disappointed.

Typical of nose in the air liberal pod past nowadays. You can just hear the virtue signaling in the trash.

Thankful to see (hear) someone finally doing a deep dive into this case!

Deep Dive from people who lived it. Unbelievable this case has never been solved. This Podcast has a real shot at breaking the case, by bringing the story and evidence to the the masses. If you were part of this early 90’s Hollywood scene …. Spread the word for this podcast. Someone knows something.

Meh
It’s very slow moving and jumps from story to story. It’s dragging on and on and I’m only on episode two. This really could be summed up much quicker. Just not holding my interest so I’m unsubscribing.

I was excited to listen to this, but I have never heard someone speak as if they were so bored with something in my entire life. Her monotone voice spewing with boredom is too much even for me.
CarrieSoBe via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/20/24
It’s her voice and cadence. This is not her story. Your narrating rand interviewing rockstars… at-least try to sound normal.

Interesting listen. Thanks for making!

This was a well done podcast. If you have a 4 minute attention span you will not like it. If you need lots of stimulation instead of listening, you may not like it. It’s a deep dive. Well done. Took me right back to those years. Makes me very curious about who murdered Brett Cantor and why. I...Read full review »

It's crazy to see all the fake negative troll reviews, which are deeply disrespectful to the victim, Brett Cantor, and his family. The podcast focuses on a detailed 3-year cold case investigation into the unsolved murder of music executive and Dragonfly nightclub owner, Brett Cantor, on July...Read full review »

I kept waiting for it to get better…..but, no. Lots of extraneous talk, talk, talk, with really no relationship to the story. Narrator talks to S-L-O-W and has an annoying voice. No thanks.
ChiefRivers via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 10/05/23
The upspeak is awful. Odd phrasing … and intonation - where all \ sentences? are questions with… weird pauses?
Farmerrrrrrr79 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/27/23
Just about made it through the first episode only to give up after 12 minutes of the second. Something about the way the narrator talks is just so off putting and it gets really annoying. A shame as the story looks to be a good one but I guess I’ll never know.

Flat AI voice, no thank you

A great deal of care, research, and love has obviously gone into creating this podcast. There is a picture painted that leaves an indelible images of past eras, and those who helped create them. Thank you🙏

This could have been a great podcast if it was narrated by an actual feeling living thinking human and not AI… I’ve never been so frustrated listening to a podcast. Wanted to learn about the story, but I’ve unsubscribed and stopped because I can’t stand the way it’s being read/produced.

AI
The whole thing AI voiceovers. It’s jarring. Just pay some folks to read lines. Or hire people who dont sound like robots
Plutosandwichbuttergolf via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/30/23
The narrator has a distracting breathy cadence and her voice is a complete disconnect to the dark story. Couldn’t get past second episode and I really wanted to.

Love the story, but the AI narration was terrible.

But not sure how Harvey Weinstein (supposedly, as he was accused of sexually assaulting Rose McGowan but a federal judge threw out/dismissed her case in 2019) warrants so much gd real estate in it. While RM did later “date” Brett Cantor for a very short period of time before his death, HW is/was...Read full review »

If you’ve never heard the story, it’s a good show, but the affectation of AI narration is a bit annoying. Can be helped by increasing to 1.25x speed.
LikeFerSureReally via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 08/20/23
I tried but the minute I started listening, I knew the narrator had to be AI. Too artificial sounding, especially when compared to the sound bites of actual people. Hope this is not the future of podcasts.

Great Personal touch and super deep dive! RIP Brett

Everything is read from a script totally awkward. Even the people being interviewed are reading badly from a script.

The voice of the narrator is abysmal. I guess it might be AI? Just so boring to listen to.
coffeeandkilometres via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 08/07/23
There’s no analysis here or really any story of insight to this murder. The whole podcast is just a recitation of events that happened at the same time as this murder that are unrelated.

Feels like it was written and performed by AI
mrstrawberryhead via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/05/23
This just goes on and on with no real substance. Pointless cut always and stories that don’t add anything to a story which your left knowing as little at the start as you do at the end. The narrators voice / way she draws out every vowel is something I prefer not to listen to.

The core story of this podcast is really interesting and it had the potential to be great, however there are so many unnecessary topics and tangents that drag the podcast down. Each episode is a little bit about Brett and then it’s goes off onto a long side story of OJ Simpson which was almost...Read full review »

This is an interesting story and set against a good background but the narrator has a very strange habit of lengthening half of her words in a very weird breathy way and it is incredibly jarring. I usually don’t go out of my way for a negative review but this podcast is a shocker. Considering it is casefile it has very little investigation into the crime. It just fluffs around and around things. And the AI narrator is terrible. I couldn’t finish it.

I loved this podcast! Dragonfly reveals the finding of their 3 year cold case investigation into the 1993 unsolved murder of music executive Brett Cantor. The series follows the history of his case from 1993 to 2023 and highlights other high profile crimes Brett’s case may be connected to. It...Read full review »

phew this thing really goes nowhere. and i agree the OK detour is unnecessary i skipped most of that as if we don’t know the OJ story come on now…sticking it out bc need something to listen to but it’s a slog

What is with the narration?! Feels like the narrator has never read half these words before. Had to stop listening. Sad because the story sounds interesting.
emma_and_totoro via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/28/23
I was so disappointed. Brett Cantor’s case deserves a better effort. A Casefile produced podcast should be better than this. Many of the participants sound like they are reading from their books. There are weird tangents into topics with limited relevance (ok, Brett’s murder came up in OJ...Read full review »

Casefile is one of my favorite true crime podcasts, so seeing this Casefile Presents miniseries I expected the same quality that I know (and pay for). Ugh, it’s not even close. Firstly, the narrator needs to take a radio communications class, or a class that teaches you not to put weird and...Read full review »

I was in high school when all of this was going on. So, the connections between all of my favorite bands and famous people is astounding. This is the stuff I never knew was going on at the time, so it’s intriguing to listen now.

This sounds like it was written by ChatGPT and narrated by AI.

I binged all of the episodes of Dragonfly in one day. It is a fascinating story. It is so tragic and interesting that I had to listen to the next episode, like a great book I just couldn’t put down. The episodes are very well written. The presentation is very much up to Casefile standards. The...Read full review »

Get a person to read the narrative to siri or AI, so unenjoyable to listen to - great topic but the narration adds absolutely no character to the story - banal. Love these types of podcasts but honestly this has just ruined my day and put me in a bad mood

Another excellent podcast from the casefile team!!
PollieJJ via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 07/26/23
The story is great, however I feel the narrator is not necessary in instances especially when she says blah blah felt they were sad and then it’s cuts to an excerpt of that person literally saying what the narrator just said. Like why? Also the narrator using a continued “fake reporter” voice...Read full review »
