Irritating show with potential to be good
I like Earthdawn, and one of the hosts - Josh - does a really good job of presenting information, so I've tried to persevere. But, I'm close to giving up on this podcast, for two reasons: 1) One of the hosts - Dan - does this fake, grating, cackling sound over and over and over again. He does it every time he says something he thinks is funny; which turns out to be every three or four sentences. It it s a verbal tick that I can't take listening to any more. 2) Dan spends a lot of time describing how much worse other games are than Earthdawn; based, apparently exclusively, on confused recollections of having played D&D 20 years ago. I like Earthdawn, I've been playing since it first came out, I sought out an Earthdawn podcast, I've bought the books and backed the kickstarters, so I am pretty sure I qualify as an Earthdawn fan-boy - and most of what he says is just nonsense. I'll happily listen to what's good about Earthdawn, but I'm not interested in hearing him dump on other games to try to make his favorite seem better by comparision; particularly when he's so ill-informed about modern role-playing games. I know I've been bashing Dan here, but I don't think Dan he's a bad guy and I'm sure I'd like him in real life. But nerves, and an excessive desire to sell the thing he loves has made listening painful. I've no idea if they read or care about iTunes comments or not, but I don't want to just seem to be a hater, it has potential to be really good. I'm going to give it another few episodes and see if it picks up.Read full review »

I started late, and I’m going in order, so I’m only through about the first 50 podcast episodes. That said., The hosts, especially Josh, are very knowledgable and it’s always an entertaining and educating listen.

The explanations into the lore and the mechanics are wonderful. Earthdawn is a wonderful system, and this podcast makes an excellent case for why more people should play.

Dan and josh have a good dynamic. In early episodes there was some denigration of other systems, but they corrected that habit. Now they reference and compare more objectively. My only real suggestion would that Dan give josh a chance to laugh (or not) at Dan’s jokes before always immediately...Read full review »
