“I had left school and was working in a sleepy Scottish town and was only aware of what was discussed in the news, when this was starting off.
I never felt, at the time, this was some sort of youth apocalypse as the Establishment portrayed but it was still fairly alien to me. We were still reeling from HIV, BSE, and fallout from Chernobyl however the rave scene seemed the least of the country’s problems. It’s was being set up as an insidious evil, corrupting young adults but I wasn’t convinced.
It was good to hear first hand accounts of the good and the bad and it filled in some gaps of my understanding.”
