Description
Hallo from Leipzig, Germany!
We just wrapped up an ambitious tour of eastern Germany, which included Magdeburg, Halle and Leipzig. It’s almost too much to fit into a single podcast — but we’ll try!
Before we get to it, here’s this week’s question: What is the worst destination dupe you’ve ever visited?
Have you ever been to a place that was billed as being “just like” a famous destination, but wasn’t? (For example, Helen, Georgia, is supposed to be a Bavarian town, but it’s not really.) We’d love hear your stories. As always, we’ll read your comments in the next podcast.
We took this picture of Saxon Switzerland’s limestone mountains just before we got hopelessly lost and then missed our train. What an adventure! With temperatures in the mid-90s, it reminded us of Sedona, but a little less red. I think we could have spent weeks hiking around out here. We’ll have details in our podcast.
A Neanderthal at the State Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Halle, Germany. This guy was so life-like, I thought he was going to stand up and walk away. This is also where we met the shaman skeleton, one of the most important archeological finds of the last century. (She did not look so good.)
Magdeburg, Germany. Behind Aren is the Magdeburger Dom, where Otto the Great is buried. Everywhere you turn in Germany, you’ll find something of historical importance. We sure did.
Foraging for berries near Bad Belzig, Germany. The blackberries are in season and you can find them almost everywhere. This part of Germany really reminds me of Iowa.
Don’t forget this week’s question: What is the worst destination dupe you’ve ever visited?
