Vapid intellectual waffle
Classic IYI assessment. Trivial but revealing error: It is possible to rationally pick ideas from books without picking everything. It’s not a gotcha if the author thinks differently to character ideas that resonate with readers. People are perfectly capable to transcend books. The big mistake made: SpaceX is after making humanity multi-planetary. Humanity. It’s nothing about making a personal Elon getaway. After his PayPal payday he could have chosen to retire on an island living in luxury but instead risked it all and currently lives in a $50k house working tirelessly for the betterment of humanity. Mars has an atmosphere containing <0.2% Oxygen and has an average temperature of -60deg C. Doesn’t sound that competitive to a getaway on Earth at present… The most concerning view promulgated: The implication that people and companies with big visions working to solve massive problems for the ultimate betterment of humanity is somehow undesirable. What’s the alternative, think small? Aim for mediocracy? Without such desire for human progress we’d still be living in caves.

People really like to twist everything even though they barely know what actually happens. But the story told is somewhat true or a possibility.

This podcast is very well researched and produced. It compellingly links the inspiration of rocketeer tech billionaires like Musk and Bezos to 1950s-era science fiction and pokes holes in their myopic vision of the future (occupy Mars, live in the Metaverse, AI for automation).
