“Harrison's podcasts are alternately enlightening and maddening, sometimes filled with insight but more often than not unstructured and riddled with loose, rambling, Romantic digressions. The show on Byzantine culture is a good example: where a program like In Our Time would give an amateur listener a fair picture of the subject, start to finish, the Entitled Opinions approach resulted in a jumble of the two academics' favorite areas; detours into University-sanctioned hot topics (religious identity, administration); and a dismayingly small amount of historical information. Harrison clearly loves the sound of his own voice and his own opinions, which can be rewarding--but only when he attempts to meet the listener halfway.”Read full review »
