Great for Students, great for armchair historians
The Explaining History podcast is the audio element of the Explaining History brand which also includes a web site, a you tube channel and a growing number of ebooks. Much like the ebooks, these podcasts describe specific episodes in modern history, as well as giving the broader context for the events and attempt to explain the why as much as the what. The style is conversational, but they are packed full of detail and insight. No doubt history A-Level students find them very useful. Writing as a sort of armchair enthusiast whose interest in history developed long after my school days were over, I find them a great introduction to a subject. I have read further into a number of subjects using these podcasts as well as the ebooks as a jumping off point for my reading thereafter. I have no hesitation in recommending these to anyone of a historical bent.
