A shame... Do yourself a favor, just wait for the movie
Wow. I was really ready to love this.... but, where do I start? I’m going to start with the good- it’s a fast paced ride, the music suits the material, it’s well researched. The bad- the vignettes are BEYOND HORRIBLE, the accents are Cringeworthy and borderline insulting. The audio isn’t mixed well so when listening to interviews that were conducted by phone, those sound like they are under water, the vignettes are generally too loud, and you have to constantly turn the volume up or down depending on what portion you’re actually listening to. I’m hoping it gets better but they should have just stuck to solid reporting and interviews to shape the story. The fictitious storyline that weaves throughout doesn’t help the reporting and in fact makes it harder to commit to listening to this podcast.

This is a well investigated and produced podcast, but the fictionalised dramatisation elements that make up roughly 50% of the podcast really detract from the experience for me.

Really enjoyable concept - blends reporting with a dramatisation that rings very true if you have spent time with NYC international crowd in the past. I certainly feel as if I’ve met some of these characters. Really enjoyed this - great work!
