This could have been amazing considering the subject matter. The terrible acting lets the whole series down.

so bad. who made this decision? no words. just do a documentary podcast. so obviously a bunch of white people doing absurd and inconsistent impressions of japanese people speaking english

This Podcast is the reason I started to listen to podcasts and follow BBC Podcasts

Fukushima is a fascinating story of cover-ups and earnest workers forced to work in the dark - literally and metaphorically. Amazing true story of man’s lack of foresight and inability to face reality. So very sad. So many ‘old’ ways followed to the detriment of all.

Don’t bother if you want to learn about the events around the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Elephantoplasty via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 06/11/23
This is terribly let down by the narrator pronouncing the word nuclear in the worst George Dubya way — I find it so distracting that I have to skip through when she comes on. How did this get through the producers?!?

It is an ok program but it’s racist and offensive to let these actors speak with funny accent. It is rude and frankly unbearable.
H Mit via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/29/23
Meh
The format sucks. It would be much better as a regular documentary, not these fake actors.

The BBC has once again proved that it is the enemy of the Iranian people. Read “The Fall of Heaven” by Andrew Scott Cooper instead of wasting your time with this podcast.

With 2500 years of history there was a 4-5 year period of a Democratic republic

One of the most important English spoken podcast mini series I’ve ever heard! (It competes with “Teddy goes to the USSR which is also a mini series). I’ve heard this podcast about 4 times and it doesn’t get worse, still as scary, fascinating and thought provoking as first time. M, Denmark 🇩🇰...Read full review »

I really enjoyed this podcast. The way the history of the Shah and the Iranian revolution has been narrated sets you in the middle of the whole scene with very sophisticated details.

Eh
I would prefer a traditional podcast not a dramatization

I am a 52 yr old retiree and I learned so much! I would love to see educators play this for their students. Engrossing and educational. Very well done. 👍🏼

For someone who left the country after the revolution that set the country back centuries, this was very educational and perfectly delivered. Thank you

The worst podcast about the best subject. What a disappointment.
rubimarcus via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 04/03/20
I could picture it all as I listened to the conversations. The Sha, how his wife loved him, how he cared for his Nation, how the youth supported the revolution. It was great how the characters felt personal. Thank you for creating it! looking forward ti more like this.

Never been attracted to radio plays but found these short episodes very engaging. Entertaining, educational and gladly received.

I would like to see more podcasts like this!

It is poorly done. It is very entertaining, but pronunciations are poor, difficult to follow voices, historically questionable. I was hoping for better.
AA man 209 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/01/19
Didn't even finish the first episode. The story has the potential to told in a much better way. If this podcast is targeted at history enthusiasts who value the content more that the useless theatrics which add no value to the story, you should have toned down the dramatizations.Read full review »

A very well produced performance. An incredible point in modern history captured in this pod cast.

I found this fascinating and well worth listening too! It was also sad because the students really believed that with a change of regime everything would be wonderful and of course the truth was so different! I liked the voice of reason from the father character who was so wise but spurned by his...Read full review »

I didn’t initially warm to the radio-drama format of this podcast - but I am glad I was not be deterred as it brought history alive for me. The radio-drama interweaves the competing narratives and perspectives of the major players and archetypical smaller players in this extraordinary revolution....Read full review »

I was really disappointed and stopped listening somewhere during the second episode. This was a major event for Iran and the U.S. and turning it into a soap opera trivialized the impact of this period of history. The dramatization was too much for me to listen to for very long. It was a bit...Read full review »

It is awesome for BBC attempting to create a drama/documentary podcast. These voice actors are not that good. Why can’t they follow format of The Assassination podcast. Engaging storyteller and well written narratives are more important.

So many podcasts about history become dry and the voice of the narrator takes over from history. By giving the characters their own voices this podcast brings the drama of the history to life and puts us back in touch with the human beings behind history. I am appreciating the first three...Read full review »

So far this has been a great podcast. I listen to a lot of different audio dramas and such and the BBC’s production is once again even better then what I would think of of average. I did have to listen to the first two episodes twice to really get the nuances of the story but now I’m into and...Read full review »

The part-dramatisation of the story makes compelling listening. Beautifully presented.

The subject matter deserves so much more than this. A b grade radio drama that puts melodramatic words into the mouths of figures that shaped one of the most integral moments in Middle East history. BBC should have presented a multi part documentary that utilised interviews with some of the key...Read full review »
