I knew some about this tragic story, but before hearing this podcast, there was so much I didn’t know. Well worth your time if this holds any interest to you

There’s a lot of rhetorical questions and beating around the bush. They’ll tease an answer but then you have to wait till the next episode.

Fascinating true crime story but the banter is so distracting !! And too much chatter between them which repeats what has occurred too frequently .

This podcast was so frustrating to listen to. The story is an incredibly salacious one but the circular telling of it is taken too far. Interrupting their own story lines constantly, it made the pod feel like a never-ending trailer and not satisfyingly detailed. Major questions they don’t ask,...Read full review »

I can see where the hosts are going here, but it feels like they have a lot to learn about the artistry of good journalism and podcasting. The story is interesting but begs to be told in a way that isn’t so expository. It just needs more nuance. And why are they saying each other’s names so much?...Read full review »

Such an interesting and amazingly executed podcast!!!!

Rebecca and Jessica do an incredible job of diving into this story and cracking open the facts. They also create an incredibly interesting story that dignifies the victims.

Loved this podcast .. kept delivering from beginning to end . Easy to follow and not another true crime podcast that fills in time with unnecessary commentary. Considering listening to it all over again. Great job ladies 🥳

Two podcasters can make or break a podcast. This was the latter. Too annoying with the little banter back and forth. I tried to listen as I’ve never heard the story but the voices, tone, saying each other’s names all the time…couldn’t get past all that. I realize anyone can call themselves...Read full review »

They did such an amazing job telling this case. Absolutely incredible. 100% recommend!

Story is interesting. No appreciation for all the side talk! Give the story and details. No need for podcaters opinion, likes, chit chat, etc. Drags this out at least 2 podcast too long! We ended up skipping through some of it to get the meat

I remember hearing about this case periodically when I was growing and had watched the AMW episode with Frank Bender making the bust of his face-then when he was arrested, seeing it covered again. Glad he ended up in jail.

I enjoyed this podcast. Very well researched and thorough.

I remembered the tv movie with Robert Blake when I read the description of this show. This was well done and filled in some blanks.

Hilarious real life trope of a crime podcast. You will love if overly emotional former neighbors and never ending, inane, incredulous rookie crime reporter banter is your thing. In the hands of someone else this could have been fantastic, some stories tell themselves. Laugh out loud bad.

Insane story told so thoroughly and thoughtfully. The ladies did an incredible job with each detail of this heart wrenching story!

If you like Crime Junkies, you will like the presentation style of this podcast and these journalists. To say it could be shorter is a criticism that could be applied to most podcasts. I am a fan of the genre, but do not like teaser statements “we will tell you about this interesting thing...Read full review »

This podcast would have been better if reported by one person and completed in two episodes. Too much chatting to fill the time. Boring

Really wanted to like this. A story I’ve never heard of and was interested. But SO repetitive. The whole first episode could be condensed into 20 mins. And that’s true for the next two. I couldn’t get through episode three. Nothing specific, nothing super detailed. And the “we had to work so hard...Read full review »

Truly great true crime podcasts are rare, and this is not one of them. At its best when discussing the particulars of the case. Not so much when talking about feelings, real or (more often) imagined. I stopped listening on the middle of episode 9 when, after the break, they were going to...Read full review »

It was a very bing worthy podcast. Kudos to the reporters who I can see put a lot of effort. Shook me up a little bit, however it was a great podcast for true crime people. It was so tragic and the depth went into this horrible, horrible tragedy was insane.
Hartless 773 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/13/23
Repetitive and literary cliches galore. Seems like the hosts are actors, who don’t know each other, reading a report. The horrific story is presented as a journalist big break rather than experienced writing about a subject. Felt like I was being preached at by the end with rehearsed differing...Read full review »

I give the two reporters A for effort but the podcast is lacking in substance. We do not know more about John List at the end…there’s a lot of repetition and the 8 episodes could probably have been done in 4 or 5. It would have helped to hear directly, more often, from the people they...Read full review »

I’ve always been fascinated by this case, and the two reporters behind this podcast worked hard and did their due diligence. That being said, as a journalist, the case itself isn’t enough to carry the podcast. The two reporters provide us the details in a way that causes this story, in the...Read full review »

Although I’ve listened to other true crime podcasts about John List, this one taught me so much about this horrific crime. Listening to the interviews of people who knew the List kids, were particularly heartbreaking. Kudos to Rebecca and Jessica for their outstanding work on this series.

This is a a fascinating case, truly, and could have been explored deeply and thoughtfully. But instead what you get here is amateurish and often quite insensitive. The tone is ALL off. Exceptionally well-researched and cleanly arranged. The women behind this podcast are relaxed and relatable which helps since the subject matter is so heavy. I can only imagine how this story must have infiltrated their minds since I can’t stop thinking about it after listening over a few hours.

This is an exceptional podcast. I thought I knew everything about this case, so I almost didn’t listen. I am so glad I did. I’ve always been fascinated by the John List murders and have watched/listened/read anything I could on it but this podcast is amazing in the fact that it covers things I’ve never heard!! Plus getting to hear from the victims’ loved ones really makes an impact. I absolutely loved this podcast!!!

I only made it a few episodes in. While the story itself fascinates me, I couldn’t keep listening to the hosts. I just didn’t like the commentary from them and how gimmicky they both sounded.

First, Thank you for all the bonus content! Second, I was listening to the part about the father/son moment of planting a tree a month before the murders and my first thought is that the small dog went missing about a month before the murders, right? I don’t do true crimes podcasts. I was looking for a podcast to half-listen to while at work. I was hooked by the title of the podcast and gave it a try. Within 5 mins of the 1st episode I was HOOKED!

Loved the story itself. The podcasts narrative structure was really irritating. They don’t give a step by step timeline of the murder until episode 3. I listen to a TON of true crime and this is one of the best I’ve heard. These two handle a sensitive subject with grace and sympathy. Carefully treading the line of murder as entertainment - and telling the sad story of what happened. Loved it. Highly recommend
