No Consent: Did a doctor abuse immigrant women? | Fault Lines
Listen now
Description
Why have so many women who were held at a Georgia immigrant detention center accused the same gynaecologist of abuse? At a privately run ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) facility in the small town of Ocilla, more than 30 women have said a local gynaecologist subjected them to unnecessary procedures or failed to obtain their consent for his treatments. Some women say they faced retribution after speaking out, including being deported. The doctor, Mahendra Amin, denies all the allegations. The story attracted widespread attention after a nurse at the detention center blew the whistle last fall. The Biden administration has ordered the ICE to stop holding immigrants at the Irwin County Detention Center, but the women who came forward are still searching for answers. - Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: https://www.aljazeera.com/
