155. Stop Commenting on Bodies + Handling Weight Changes
Description
In this raw and vulnerable solo episode of the Female Athlete Nutrition podcast, Lindsey shares her experiences with a changing body postpartum and how other peoples’ comments have impacted her. She unpicks society’s flawed belief that weight loss is always good and deserving of compliments, and weight gain is bad, countering these beliefs with real world and personal examples of when weight loss is not a good thing or sign of health, and when weight gain is. Lindsey talks about how stress can impact metabolism, satiety signals, food cravings and eating patterns, and weight; she shares how the stress of giving birth to an unwell baby affected her body and nutrition, bringing on a wrath of unwanted and uninformed opinions. Lindsey dives deep into the harmful effects of body comments on the receiver’s mindset and their own relationship with their body and food. The advice to everyone is to not comment on other peoples’ bodies! It’s normal for bodies to change, and your body is not anyone else’s business!
