“Every week, these two juggernauts tie up in the longest rivalry bout in wrestling history. Before the match, you can see Christian Pyles calmly and cooly shadow drilling while going over his game plan with his coach and Willie Saylor angrily pacing back and forth with his headphones loud enough that you can hear them. As they walk out on the mat, Christian gives a confident nod to his coach while Willie takes a couple slaps to the face, or what we in the Carolinas call “rooster calls,” from a teammate. The two styles could not be more different as Willie, a bulldog, attacks right from the whistle but Christian frustrates Willie with his methodical gameplan. During the second period, Willie baits Christian into going upper body, and gets the better of him. When it’s Willie’s choice in the third period, he goes forth between top, bottom, or neutral for about 5 minutes. By the end of the third period, everybody in the crowd knows this is going to be a close match, or what we in the Carolinas call a “barn burner.” Somehow, I never quite see who actually wins the match, but I know both men are angry at the refs for not calling stalling. Worth the free price of admission every time.”
