“The first thing I'll say about this show is that I haven't heard anything like it. It really is doing the work of making sense of the world through stories in a way that it feels like maybe the world has forgotten. There's an acknowledgement that the world is a hard place, but also that there is hope, and that together people are strong.
These are modern fables that address the world from a place of black experience that feels very different from so much of the audio fiction I've heard before. It's also a generally family friendly show (though there are some brief depictions of violence or injury that might not be appropriate for younger children).
The production quality is fantastic, and all the characters are voiced by the creator, Morgan Givens, who also includes songs in the episode. It gives it the feel of being read a story by someone close to you, breathing it to life in an intimate kind of way that reinforces the feeling that you're being told something important about the world, not just being entertained.
Every family who has kids old enough to listen to this should be listening. It's doing important work, spreading a positive message, and on top of that is immensely entertaining.”Read full review »
