“After hearing from a friend how awful the dairy industry is, I wanted to learn more. It was just by chance that I dropped on the Food for Thought Podcast and I could not have been more fortunate. The first episode I listened to is entitled ‘Why Vegan? Pick a Reason. Any Reason’ and after that I knew I would never go back to eating meat, dairy or eggs. I felt upset, angry, frustrated but also elated that I was now going to be set free from any emotions of guilt that had occasionally nagged me when passed by a transport truck or field of lambs.
Colleen must have covered every aspect of veganism and compassion and in the most sincere and heartfelt way. She is incredibly knowledgeable and yet never condescending in her delivery. I am 46 years old and have never had a role model, a person other than family, whom I could look up to. Colleen is undoubtedly the most amazing inspirational role model. I’m in awe of her for many reasons including her tenderness yet incredible strength.
It is by listening to Colleen’s podcast and becoming more and more aware of the impact our actions have on the animals, environment and many other issues, that I felt confident enough to give a presentation to my work colleagues recently. It focussed mainly on the health benefits of a whole-foods plant-based diet because I’m a podiatrist and that’s what people wanted to know about. Although I took the opportunity to get across some issues surrounding animal welfare when I could! The experience was overall very positive, despite an ex-farmer “respectfully disagreeing” with almost everything I said! I stayed calm and was able to respectfully put him right, thanks to Colleen!
I also wrote to Sir David Attenborough last year to express my deep concerns about the unimaginable suffering which is inherent in animal agriculture. I referred to Colleen and asked that he listen to the aforementioned episode in the hope that he may also be moved and then share his concerns through his documentaries. He wrote back within a couple of days: “I think we should all have a basically vegetarian diet for ecological reasons as well as the ones you quote as I explain in my recent work”. Admittedly, I had hoped for more vegan than vegetarian!
My daughter, son and now even my husband have gone vegan and we all have Colleen to be eternally grateful for this.
I have several of Colleen’s cook books (love the oatmeal raisin cookies!) and will soon be participating in one of her cooking classes!
Please keep going Colleen… you are amazing!!!
Yours sincerely
Rachel xx”
