Engaging and excellently produced
I heard about Forest 404 at a podcasting conference, where there was discussion about how it combines science fiction and science, in a way that keeps audiences coming back for the story and learning about the world around is at the same time. Initially I was intimidated by the format and was concerned about the sheer amount of listening time it may take to get through the whole series. Although there are three components to each chapter (episode, talk, soundscape), in total the amount of time isn’t that much at all because the latter two tend to be well under 10 minutes each! The lovely voices of the three narrators - Pan (Pearl Mackie), Daria (Tanya Moodie), Thea (Pippa Haywood) - who told us the story from each of their perspectives, was complemented by some excellent audio production and an addictive theme song. Bonobo’s theme got me pumped for the excitement of each episode! The talks were informative but not too dense, a byte-sized (heh) glimpse into the science behind the episode of the day. And the soundscapes were just beautiful. Forest 404 has definitely switched me on to the genre of pod fiction, so now I’m on the prowl to find some new listens like it :-)

🎵So Good, So Bright, It’s all I need….🎵 (From a song by Jacob Collier, with somewhat edited lyrics) This podcast is absolutely amazing. It is the best podcast I’ve listened to in a long long time. Usually I do not go for the story podcasts, preferring informative ones, but this just blew me...Read full review »
