This was an excellent podcast. Wish there was more

… but nothing left to talk about?

I miss regular updates on this series. Important show for the millennials to listen to. Loved the two parter on Jim McClean.

Really interesting and revealing series on different football stories
Sixvfg56 via Apple Podcasts · Switzerland · 10/08/20
Sort the ads, lads - or a least sort the timing. Good pod otherwise. Nice length and interesting football nooks.
FakeRayner via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 09/29/20
Great idea . Interesting stories . Ruined by too many ads in such a short podcast. Pass .
Aiden O Brien via Apple Podcasts · Ireland · 09/14/20
Most importantly - there’s no need to repeat the intro 3 or 4 times, we are not idiots!! Also Don’t put the ads in stupid places. Content itself is really interesting, just clear up the presentation.
BosunTunes via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/12/20
I find some of the stories genuinely interesting but repeating the title of the podcast every few minutes is irritating. There are so many far longer podcasts which don’t have the breaks that this does in 10-15 minutes. Really off putting.
Tilbury27 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/10/20
Some really interesting stories, but flow of podcast is ruined by the constant interruptions. We know what we are listening to, you don’t need to give us an ad *for the podcast we are already listening to* every 3/4 mins. Please change this or I for one will stop listening and I think you’ll...Read full review »

How ironic that ‘forgotten stories of football’ feel the need to remind you what you’re listening to every 4 minutes 😴 We’re already listening to it, you don’t need to advertise it. The accents are just simply unnecessary. Other than that it’s a good listen for any football fans
billytravels via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/01/20
Some of the stories are relatively unknown & interesting for that. No objection to the ads but try to put them somewhere where it doesn’t interrupt the flow of the story.
forcessweetheart via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/26/20
Pretty shocking this has the Guardian's name on it | Writing doesn't even approach journalism - "RUMOUR HAS IT...." | Storytelling is all over the place, bitty and schizophrenic | atempts at accents are laughable | Production is amateurishRead full review »

A 11 minute podcast that could of been whittled down to 5 minutes if no adverts. Subject matter was interesting but I won’t be returning to this podcast. The accents used to re-enact the story were horrendous

Really enjoy the stories and I don’t agree with the criticism of most of the production/VO but the sheer amount of interruptions in the form of ads and stings, etc absolutely kills to flow. I thought there was a limit to the proportion of a show that can be ads? Some of these it seems close to...Read full review »

Good articles ruined, by over production and terrible delivery. What were the people involved even thinking? Astonishingly bad. Would give zero stars if Apple’s nonsensical ratings system allowed.

Can’t believe this is getting low reviews. It’s brilliant. If anything, it’s a tiny bit long, but that’s only a very minor point. It’s basically great!

Great idea, executed dreadfully.
AndyMorris85 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 06/03/20
Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Would have appreciated if this was mentioned in the description. Avoid if you enjoy more in depth football chat.

Interesting short stories about lesser known events during the game. Only two complaints - please stop with the accents (really distracting) and is there really any need for quite so many idents within a 20 minute podcast?
niaxf via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/28/20
The writing is excellent, the reading/attempted accents/"acting" are beyond cringy. It wouldn't be hard to do it again betterRead full review »

The episodes so far, (and hopefully many of the ones to come,) go beyond simple hagiography of figures or teams from the game and show how the significance of the sport spills over into a wider social and political context, providing fascinating insights through well written stories. But please,...Read full review »

Good content, terribly written. The flow is hard to listen, the advert reminders unnecessary in a 15 minute podcast. Lacks a professional touch.
Westy8701 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/26/20
But I had no idea Alex Ferguson was from Northern Ireland
david6222 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/25/20
Have to agree with previous comments. Why quote Alex Ferguson by putting on a terrible Glaswegian accent? Difficult to listen to, despite the subject being of interest. Hopefully future episodes will improve or they’ll have to abort the podcast. Like listening to Teresa May telling me about Man...Read full review »

I was expecting long episodes considering the content but it’s far too short and badly produced. No need for constant reminders of what the topic is about. We already know hence listening. Feel like 45 minutes should be the minimum.
Ash Parajuli via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 05/24/20
Completely wasted opportunity, great premise but having what sounds like Siri providing the narration is odd and completely takes away from the story. The Ferguson quotes just sounds laughable. Great idea... terrible execution
Soren ST via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/22/20
This is a wasted opportunity to tell a good story. As said previously it’s overproduced and the narrator’s style is wrong. Strange when the Guardian has so many football people who can tell a good tale well
Drucster via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/21/20
I wanted to like this, I really did. Over produced, title sequence plays 3 or 4 times, long pauses making me think my phone had gone off, and dodgy accents when quoting people.. had to leave it.
Luigi Vampa14 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/20/20
Strange silences and interruptions make this podcast annoying. Ridiculous accents put on by the narrator don’t help. Not much depth to the history either, seems like a real rushed job. Pretty poor all round. Will unsubscribe.
jabberhut via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/20/20
Great article but irritatingly over-produced. We don’t need the title three times or the overly portentous score. Just read it and, for the love of god, no more impressions.
Chipshopchopup via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/20/20
What we stateside football fans needed, when we needed it! The Guardian scores again!
SBywater via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/16/20
Great podcast, really interesting, can possibly agree with the guy about the accents not being needed necessarily but I don’t know jack. So do your thing.

Just the perfect amount of ads and great stories 👍
SMinihane via Apple Podcasts · Ireland · 05/15/20
Too many ads
Sideshow moe via Apple Podcasts · Ireland · 05/14/20
Meh
Episode 1: was it really necessary to put on a German accent when reading a quote from a Norwegian?! Ridiculous. Otherwise an ok podcast, expected so much more
hyllandinho via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/14/20
Fantastic podcast, but please drop the accents!
Damian P via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/14/20
I have wanted a podcast on football history for a long time. Having read a chunk of the articles and now listened to the first instalment this looks exactly what I have been looking for.
meltwaterfalls via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/13/20
Very brief for what I felt was going to be a deep dive into an interesting story. Whilst the content was interesting I felt a bit cheated with the lack of real storytelling and where was the ending??? Lots of pauses and the narrator reminding us on no less than three occasions what we were...Read full review »
