I so, so enjoyed listening to this excellent podcast. It really made me appreciate even more the care and craft that went into making what has fast become one of my favourite TV shows of all time. It was beautifully hosted, the range of guests and insights was perfect, and I learned so much about...Read full review »

After watching the series and realising there is a podcast, I listened to the first podcast episode and decided to watch the series again with the podcast. Its a perfect complements of the show.

I loved the book, I can not believe you have made this so real. Hiro is fantastic. Thank you for such a wonderful story you are telling. I wait each week for the next episode. Thank you

For any intelligent, caring person to give this podcast less than 5 stars??? I’d give it 10 if I could. It really complements and completes the series for the non Japanese viewer. I’m going to check with some Japanese friends about their reactions to both.

This podcast has been a brilliant accompaniment to an outstanding production. Having a credited writer as the host lent instant creditability (not to mention Emily did a great job), and the contribution from others who had key roles in the production added so much richness to the experience of...Read full review »

The podcast adds a great amount of insight into the laborious process of making the series, the actors’ performances, and the historical context. Having reached the end, I only wish it was twice as long or that I could watch and listen again for the first time.

What I really enjoyed about this podcast is the historical and cultural explorations of that time period. Also listening to the actors and their thoughts were always interesting.

The details and behind-the-scenes info this podcast provides are unbelievably fascinating. Will there ever be another series that elicits such emotions? Episodes 9 and 10 are a rollercoaster. So sad it’s “over.”

Excellent series. Episode 9 is everything a TV drama should be.

Shōgun is top 5 greatest miniseries/television events ever. This podcast does a wonderful job bringing you into the minds of the creators and actors that portrayed the characters. With the amount of detail and depth of story that tv show had, the podcast episodes could’ve been a hour instead of...Read full review »

Been a fan since back to the Grantland days. EY is a tremendous interviewer and I can’t wait to learn more about the production of this tremendous show

This is a wonderful podcast and an excellent companion to the show. The guests, topics, and insights expand on and enhance watching the drama in a unique way.

As a 3rd/4th generation Japanese-American & Japanese speaker, I, along with many others, have endured mispronunciations of my Japanese names my entire life. While I’m a huge fan of this show & proud to see less stereotypical/Euro-centric portrayals of the Japanese culture, the constant...Read full review »

Love the show and appreciate the insight given in the podcast. Just wish each episode were longer and dived more into the plot of each episode. I like learning more about the show but there seems to be a lot of focus on the set designs instead of story. Emily is a great host.

A gleaming gem of thoughtful, carpingly created work by cast and crew alike. It sets itself apart from all the rest.

This is my first time listening to a podcast that accompanies a television show and I am greatly enjoying it. The behind-the-scenes information and historical insights just make the miniseries that much richer and meaningful to the viewer.

Fascinating and compelling as the programs are but too short and truncated. Love the background and details but please SLOW DOWN. Speaking much too fast to understand it all (ep 6 especially) Still regrettably short. Any of the three subjects of e7 could have filled an hour.

Great podcast but talk slower !

Love the behind the scenes for each episode and how they dive into the history, customs, fashion, and scenes. Talking to not only the actors but the other producers, writers, costume designers, and other working units to get their takes and explanations and influences. Love how dedicated everyone...Read full review »

I expected this to be similar to House of the Dragon’s companion podcast, discussing character motives, ins and outs of power players, etc. There is a small amount of that, but it’s mostly a “Making Of” type show. If you’re into that, great. If you want to delve deeper into what’s happening in...Read full review »

I love to be able to listen to a podcast with a series such as Shogun. I just wish it was a little longer and explained a little more about what exactly is going on in Episode. There are a lot of characters and I would appreciate more explanation on their roles and back ground history. Overall...Read full review »

This is great, with excellent interviews and analysis. I’d just love it to be twice as long to examine the story and the production in even greater depth.

I watch, record and rewatch again to make sure I get everything. I didn’t see the 80’s version or read the book, but will get it on audiobooks for sure. Love the story and all the characters. Hardest part is waiting a week for the next episode.

I love the excellent quality of this production. This series is absolute perfection. And this is a worthy component of that project.

Love the interviews and detailed descriptions of all the action. A masterful series nicely complimented by a equally masterful podcast. Great job Emily Yoshida and to all the cast and crew.

Obsessed with Shogun, and so stoked that there is a companion podcast… it’s such a rich story and world, and I just want to know everything about it. This podcast does exactly that and it sounds excellent!

As I write this there are 3 5 star ratings. It’s a 2 minute ad for a new show. How do you rationally give a 5 star rating to 2 minutes that tell you nothing. Except how great the stunts are. So just to balance things out. 1 singular star. I’ll watch the show considering my obsession with feudal...Read full review »
