Aways something to look forward to!
My desert island podcast. My comfort food. The thing that actually makes me want to walk the dog and fold the laundry. I’ve listened to nearly every episode twice and a third can’t be far away. The magic formula of the show is having two writers as hosts. One - the journalist - does the deep research, presents the history and context, and makes the interesting connections to other work that you never would have realised. The other - the screenwriter - analyzes and critiques the plot and characters, and provides insight into the the process and industry. The two have excellent rapport and keep things lively, fun, and interesting. A bit of advice - keep an eye out for episodes about shows you’ve never heard of. It’s great to hear another deep-dive into Frasier or the Golden Girls, but the real gold is learning about Madam’s Place or a baffling Paul Lynne Halloween special! The only episodes I avoid are some of the earlier guest episodes - the guests seem like great people but a few just aren’t great at extemporaneous speaking or don’t get the format. If you enjoy this be sure to check out some of their terrific spinoff casts, most of which have a few episodes for free here but you’ll need to pay (very little) to get the rest on Patreon.

I love every...Read full review »

It's a funny, smart, sharp, warm, wonderful look at how TV and culture have shaped each other throughout the 20th century, and what representation has meant in different eras. I tell everyone I know...Read full review »
