Don't judge the book by its cover!
It would be easy to dismiss this podcast on a first listening - it's not technically great in terms of sound production quality; some earlier episodes have way too many "you knows" for this level of podcasting; it tends to assume US-centric values (the internet knows no borders!); the hosts sometimes sound pretentious and dismissive of any low-brow SF/fantasy productions (maybe I'm intimidated by their three-barreled names?); and the intro and outro themes are too archaic even for geeks! So why am I still listening? Because I can't judge this book by its cover. These guys REALLY know their material. Not only do they secure some big names for author interviews, but they ask intelligent and thought-provoking questions, and follow up with interesting discussions. I feel like I've learnt so much about the science fiction and fantasy genres by listening to JJA and DBK. My wishlist of books to read seems to lengthen with each podcast, as does my appreciation for stories and authors I'm already acquainted with. Since I started listening, the quality of the production has improved - and let's be honest, these presenters are not media professionals. I'm glad I'm not the only one learning here! Keep up the good work, and I look forward to many more episodes.Read full review »

If you're a science fiction fan and you've got an hour a week to listen to this podcast, I don't think you'll be dissapointed. The podcast combines interviews with current science fiction authors (and sometimes actual science authors such as Richard Dawkins) with commentary by the...Read full review »
