“This was an incredible podcast, with some incredible compelling characters and an unbelievable story at the heart of it. I did appreciate how most of the people involved (Martin and Rob) tried to stay as objective as possible and see that the story is far more complicated than just simply villain and hero.
But I was very disappointed in the last episode where Susan, the lead journalist, ambushes her idea of the ‘villain’ and repeatedly calls him a liar. This is so extremely tone deaf, from an individual who has supposedly so much experience with refugees, to hear her dismiss this mans experiences because he did not tell the truth, who then belittles and admonishes a man when the power dynamic is so skewed. She expects him to just tell her what she wants to hear and admit to being a terrible person, and refuses to even consider that the truth is more complicated than that.
Not to mention the fact that she thinks her story is more important than his asylum and his status as a refugee in the UK. I hope she can reflect on her own actions and next time not prioritize her story over basic human compassion and respect”
