An amazing story of love and empathy, beautifully told
rinaferris via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 04/14/24
This entire podcast seemed like a projection of the host’s past and current failures. The story itself was engaging, but completely missed the mark. It began with Sue, the host, mentioning that she was fooled by Reza (although she is sure to mention she had a subconscious hunch!) and how this...Read full review »

What a story of all that is wonderful in humanity and the darker side. Also an insight into what motivates migrants from two very different perspectives. I would love to hear an up date on this. Where are the families now and what relationships have sustained

This was riveting. Binge-worthy. Brilliantly reported, highlighting the bad and good of humanity. At least 4 of the people featured have rocketed to the top of my list of folks I admire.

Fantastic (albeit unintentional) expose of liberal gullibility on the subject of the immigrant crisis. Two middle class folks who assume that if one is suffering one most essentially be good and get taken in. Shock horror :)

I listened to the whole podcast in only a few days, it was interesting to hear the complexities of Goalie’s story and the search for her daughter in what is a truly awful situation. There were a few episodes though, especially towards the end when they were following Rezza that made me cringe....Read full review »

Rather an inert pointless tale. Bit of a none story so I couldn’t go more than 3 episodes. Tinged with sadness at how low IQ citizens looking for Instagram fame can be bulldozed by the realities of economic migration. I suspect his wife was one foot out the door before this incident. What the...Read full review »

Hearing the excitement of Rob and Sue as they exploit these vulnerable peoples’ stories is truly disgusting. They play detective, promise a refugee money they never give him, hide a tracking device in a teddy bear to track him. Unethical practices all around! Sue’s interview of Reza at the end is...Read full review »

This was an incredible podcast, with some incredible compelling characters and an unbelievable story at the heart of it. I did appreciate how most of the people involved (Martin and Rob) tried to stay as objective as possible and see that the story is far more complicated than just simply villain...Read full review »

It has taken 12 months to bump In The Dark (Curtis Flowers) off my number one list and you have done it. I experienced many different emotions while listening and I have to be honest I was hoping for a different outcome for the mother. Rob, kind and empathetic which I appreciate, but as a mother...Read full review »

I still think there’s so much well done about this podcast story and the quality, but I had to stop at the later recording of the Sue pressing for answers from the girl’s father. Even with this short insight into their lives, inequalities, cultural differences, poverty, survival people have to...Read full review »

Such an incredible story filled with amazing people. It made me cry but also Rob made me laugh. Well done for highlighting such a complicated story that it’s so important to draw attention to, especially the plight of the innocent children caught up in it all.

This is the first Podcast that I’ve just had to listen to one episode after enough. Totally gripping and desperate to know how the story ended. Wonderful

This is the craziest story ever! I’m on episode 5, and needed to vent to someone, so I decided to write this review. God bless you Rob! There is a place in heaven waiting for you ❤️

Gripping story in its own right, but also loved the friendship between Sue and Rob. Excellently done. Fantastic production and sensitive storytelling. I love the BBC.

This story this podcast tell is wild and the combination of thorough BBC reporting from Sue Mitchell, and Rob Lawrie’s compassion and natural inclination to describe what he is seeing and experiencing out loud, are a compelling combination. Near the end there is an abrupt jump in the timeline...Read full review »

Well produced. Superb sound. An amazing story that opened my eyes to immigration........I was left staggered by the point that men will take a child to ensure that they remain in the UK with utter disregard to their other children and wife.......truly heartbreaking........

This was an amazing podcast from start to finish. It’s powerful, moving, amazing and an unbelievable insight into the lives of the main characters. There were so many twists and turns and the end was very emotional.

This was a fascinating podcast of a story I hadn't heard about before. Amazing the kind of help people will give! BBC tends to do podcasts I really enjoy; the production is good, the editing makes things run smoothly while capturing your attention. The problem with this one was the host. I...Read full review »

It was an amazing podcast with brilliant hosts. I couldn’t take the leniency of such a disgusting man that is Renza. The story is well told and gives a sense of the incredible risks and miseries that people are prepared to take to lead a live a life worth living. Enjoyed the whole thing, but occasionally became restless at what seemed to be ‘padding’. Ten episodes could have been eight or less. Also Sue, please don’t shun the letter ‘t’. “Hi’ over the head with a cricke’ ba’” isn’t just a moan from a R4 dinosaur, it’s a plea for clear speech from one of...Read full review »

The usual high standard of a BBC produced podcast - good audio, music, script and story. The journalist was very hard on Reza at the end. Refugees, as she knows, go through a tough life. The system makes people lie and cheat for fear of not making it. Taking sides doesn’t help.
