“I just listened to the first episode and have to say that I found Renato's almost complete disregard for the work that translators do (we "are like toilet paper - you don't notice us until you need us") to be a huge turn off. His contention that his role as an LSP manager will continue to grow and evolve while the translator's role fades into obscurity is not only laughably smug, but pretty inaccurate if you look at current trends in the field.
Yes, MT has made great strides if you look at extremely narrow corpi of technical documents, but show me an MT engine that creates content that ranks high in a search engine and results in conversions? There was no acknowlegment that translators are, at heart, content creators and there is no shortage of need for high-quality, optimized content.
It seems much more likely to me that the LSP model as we know it will become obsolete. As localization continues to become more agile and companies look to platforms to find skilled, tech-savvy transcreators, is it not more likely that they will question the need for the middle man?”Read full review »
