24.222 | Get Wisdom | Prov 4:1-9 | God’s Word for Today with Pastor Nazario Sinon
Description
Text: Prov 4:1-9 ESV
1 Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight,
2 for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching.
3 When I was a son with my father, tender, the only one in the sight of my mother,
4 he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live.
5 Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.
7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
8 Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.
9 She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”
Prov 4:1-9 ESV
GET WISDOM
Despite the fact that these verses are being delivered in the form of a father’s instructions to a son, “The entire chapter may be read (and should be read) as though God was speaking to all men everywhere.” [The Teachers’ Bible Commentary]
The father has established his authority through his obedience to his father, saying;
To get wisdom is the most important thing[v.5-7].
5 Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.
7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
There are certain people who have a lot of knowledge but they're fools. They don't know how to use their knowledge. If there is to be a choice made between wisdom and knowledge, it's better to choose wisdom. A person may have education but lacks common sense. Unless you have wisdom, knowledge can be dangerous. Knowledge can destroy. Wisdom is the principal thing, which is actually the correct application of knowledge. It's knowing what to do with what you know.
Let’s recall that after Solomon became king, God appeared to Solomon in a dream at Gibeon. The Lord said, "Ask what I shall give you" (1 Kings 3:5). Rather than asking for power, wealth, or something worldly, Solomon asked for something he'd been taught to consider far more valuable. He responded, "Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?" (1 Kings 3:9). The Lord made him wise to govern his kingdom.

the expectation of the wicked in wrath.
24 One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.

Text: Proverbs 11:22 (ESV)
22 Like a gold ring in a pig's snout
is a beautiful woman without discretion.
BEAUTY AND DISCRETION
What is discretion? This is a person's awareness of what is appropriate, respectable, well-mannered, or dignified. Thus, a woman with "discretion," in this...
