Text: Prov 10:6-7 ESV 6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. 7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. - Prov 10:6-7 ESV THE GOOD LEGACY The memory of the righteous is a blessing. They exude a good legacy. The righteous out of his good heart brings forth good, and the wicked person out of his evil heart brings forth evil. The motives of the righteous and wicked are diametrically opposite to each other. 6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. The wicked persons play hypocrites. Jesus exposed the Pharisees for their hypocritical hearts, saying, “You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned" (Mat 12:34–37). Consequently, the righteous through their good deeds, will leave a memorable legacy. Their lives are blessings to others. Even in Psa 112:3, the psalmist tells us that the righteousness of the person who fears the Lord endures forever. And, he will be remembered forever.[Psa 112:6] Solomon also said, "A good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death than the day of birth." [Ecc 7:1] In contrast, when wicked people die, those who live on are more likely feel relieved than they are to grieve, don’t they? Their memory fades away and their reputation decays. Why? Like putrefying waste, it is unpleasant so people want to forget it completely. Their names will vanish in obscurity. In history, many statues and edifices of despots or evil dictators eventually are toppled down. Let’s ponder for a moment. How do others perceive you and myself? Would others see the beauty of Christ in our lives? Our talk talks but our walk talks than our talk talks. As Jesus says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”[Mat 5:16] ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram
