“I discovered Grey 17 just as I had decided to start my first long-overdue watch of B5 a few months back, and it's become the perfect companion piece for the show. The concept of having several first-time watchers as well as veteran "First Ones" who are long-familiar with the show is genius.
Oftentimes, old guard fans of things can become set in their impressions and beliefs about a fandom, and that familiarity can cause them to miss out on new insights and contexts. The first-timers often catch those insights, which makes for some very interesting back-and-forth, providing an excellent learning experience for both groups. Babylon 5 is thirty years old now, but many of its themes are more relevant now than ever, and this podcast helps explore those themes very well.
Themes and plots aside, the hosts - both First Ones and First-Timers - are all friendly and fun, each with their own distinct voices, personalities, and points of view. Each has something interesting and relevant (and, sometimes, controversial) to offer the listener.
